The Mother Tongue Department aims to empower Bowenians to succeed in the 21st Century by: 

• Developing their proficiency and ability to communicate in the Mother Tongue Languages (MTL), a valuable skill for life and work, which gives our students a competitive edge. 

• Cultivating deeper appreciation of culture, history and values through learning of Mother Tongue Languages, 

• and hence retain our Asian roots and values while embracing globalisation.

With this in mind, the MTL Department strives to keep MTL effective and relevant with the changing language environment landscape. The MTL department organizes several activities for our students as we aim to create a conducive environment to promote MTL usage and learning outside the classrooms.   

We see MTL as living language, and we nurture active learners who can use their MTL to communicate proficiently in everyday life, developing their awareness of cultural identity, and cultivate an appreciation of their cultural roots. This enables our students to connect with communities across Asia and the people who speak that language or share that culture.

ZaoBao (ZB) Schools (ZBSchools.sg) is a Chinese-language news and learning platform designed for primary and secondary school students across Singapore. It brings together content from Comma, Big Thumb, and Little Thumb, offering a rich collection of news materials and learning resources.

Over the years, Bowen’s student correspondents have contributed an increasing number of articles to the platform, with several pieces earning recognition and awards.
